Cultural Awareness Month: Akinfenwa’s Powerful Talk on ResilienceCultural Awareness Month Initiative Celebrated with Talk by Adebayo Akinfenwa at Red Bull Technology Campus
Formerprofessionalfootballer,AdebayoAkinfenwa,knownforhisremarkablestrengthandlarger-than-lifepersonality,visitedRedBullTechnologyCampuson11thNovemberwherehespoketoemployeesaboutthechallengesheovercameculturally,breakingintothesportslandscape.
The talk was the culmination of Red Bull Technology Group’s Cultural Awareness Month, an internal initiative driven by the company’s employee-led Cultural Resource Group, called the Inclusioneers, to celebrate and support a period of cultural relevance, including Black History Month and Diwali.
The talk was hosted by Oracle Red Bull Racing Ambassador, Josh Denzel, and joined by over 100 employees. Adebayo spoke about resilience in the face of adversity, keeping motivated, and the positive impact of culture and family on success.
Being labelled “too big to be a footballer” early on in his career, Adebayo transformed these criticisms into motivation. His positive outlook helped him carve out a unique place in football. Adebayo’s openness about overcoming setbacks, including facing doubts about his potential based on appearances, resonated widely with Red Bull Technology employees who come from a diverse background, and work together to achieve the same goal of being World Champions.
Adebayosaid,“Iwouldn’tchangeforanybody.Ofcourse,you’regoingtogrowandadapt,butI’malwaysgoingtobeme,withmyphysicalappearance.”
As part of our ongoing 'Drive For Change’ programme, we aim to ensure that we are a Team, in a sport, where everyone is welcome.
Adebayo added, “I picked a team sport because a team is a dynamic. But you must bring something to the team. If everyone puts their best foot forward, the team can move massive spaces and be disruptive. That culture, where the team does well, we individually do well, and anything is possible.”
The event is the most recent in Red Bull Technology Group’s Diversity and Inclusion programme, where our mission is to be the most ambitious and inclusive Team, that excites and innovates on and off track. At Red Bull, our people are our greatest asset, and we are proud of who we are and what we do, which Adebayo reminded everyone of.
