Taking The Corners In The Wet© @bcampbell_photo
In the first round of the 2021 F1 Esports Pro Championship two of the three races had wet conditions, so to kick off the series we asked Marcel Kiefer, Frede Rasmussen and Liam Parnell their top five pieces of advice on how to improve your driving when the heavens open!
So without further ado, here’s your first masterclass from the Red Bull Racing Esports drivers…
This might sound counter intuitive, but in the wet slower is faster! Make sure you’re gentle on the power, do this by slowly pressing down on the accelerator to avoid any speed-sapping wheel spins.
If you watch the Esports Bulls driving sometimes they look like they’re hardly moving at all and that’s because of their smooth driving style, which becomes even more important in the wet. If you’re smooth on the track it will prevent, or at least lessen, the chance of some heart-stopping snaps.

Before you even think about using ERS/Overtake make sure you already have maximum traction. If you use it whilst accelerating, you could start to wheel spin. So be patient and when you feel ready, it’s time to use ERS/Overtake.
Start short shifting in corners with tricky traction zones to minimise the risk of making the rear kick out under acceleration. As little as one gear higher can make a big difference to traction. However, if you’re on a track where certain corners have good traction then this might not be necessary.

Before you even hit the track make sure you have a stable setup so you can drive with full confidence in the wet. For example, to get a more stable setup you want to put up the rear wing and you can also increase the throttle differential to get more stability when turning into the corner. What also helps is to increase the rear suspension and decrease the rear anti roll bar, which will also help to calm the rear.
So, there you have it, our first in a series of tips from the pros. But, has that left you wanting to know more about driving in the wet? Well, you’re in luck! Liam Parnell will be hosting a stream on our Twitch channel on Monday 25 October where he will give you an insight into how to put these wet driving tips into practice. Tune in at 7.30pm UK time.

Now the only thing for you to do is to go and put these tips into practice yourself and make sure to return soon when the Esports Bulls will help you become a better racer.
And if you want to see Marcel, Frede and Liam in action then tune in on Wednesday 27 October at 19:30 to see the Team racing at the second event of the F1 Esports Pro Championship Series.
