In honour of Oracle Red Bull Racing making its debut in Florida, here are five fascinating facts you might not know about a city that never sleeps.

Miami International Autodrome is a temporary circuit, set in the Hard Rock Stadium complex in Miami Gardens and this stadium knows how to host a sporting event.
Hosting six Super Bowls, the most recent in 2020 when the Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49’s, the Hard Rock Stadium has also hosted two world series. But this will be the first time the city has hosted Formula One, although the state of Florida has hosted one Formula One Championship race once before; Sebring in 1959.

Miami is home to the largest collection of Art Deco Architecture in the world, the majority of which can be found in the Art Deco Historic District. South Beach also has a host of stunning 1930s buildings that come alive at night as the streets fill with party goers.

American businesswoman Julia Tuttle (1849-1898) is known as the ‘Mother of Miami’ as she owned the land and property which Miami was built upon. She inherited her father’s estate after his passing and invested in 640 acres in Florida where the city now sits.

A nickname often used for Miami is the “Magic City”. If you’ve visited the city or even looked at photos, you’ll understand why it gets its name, given the colourful buildings and beautiful beaches.
Although, it’s thought the name actually came from a journalist, Ethan Blackman, who when looking at the original plans for the city realised it’s potential and therefore named Miami the “Magic City”.

The port of Miami is the busiest cruise port in the world, with millions of cruise passengers travelling through Miami each year. The port is also one of the most modern in the world and home to the largest cruise ships on earth. Miami is also the main port of entrance for cruises in the Caribbeans and Bahamas.
