However, in the last two races it’s been different for the Dutch driver. At Silverstone a collision with Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton saw him register a heavy impact of 51G in a tyre wall at Copse. And in the most recent race in Hungary a first lap collision saw him nurse a heavily damaged car to the finish line in a hard fought P10.
With that in mind, if anyone deserves some time off to recuperate, it’s Max, so we asked the Dutchman what he’ll be up to between now and the next round at Spa-Francorchamps.
I need to be ready for the second half of the season and focus on winning the races which are remaining. “I’ll be spending most of my two weeks at home,” he said. “I will go travelling for some of that, relax a bit, but not too much because I need to be ready for the second half of the season and focus on winning the races which are remaining.”
I’m ok with the break, I’ll relax for a week, or ten days. A lot of the drivers don’t enjoy the break feeling it ruins the rhythm of the season. Max however, doesn’t mind it so much. “I’m ok with the break, I’ll relax for a week, or ten days. I think it’s a good thing as you can unwind, not worry about workouts, eat what you want and then you can get back on it,” explained Max.

Max is a huge sim racing fan and during the Coronavirus pandemic, at the start of 2020, could be found racing virtually most days. During this time he competed in several championships, it’s how he unwinds, so will he be sitting in his sim during the break? “I’ll probably do some sim racing, if there are some races around for me to do,” said Max, before explaining that due to his winning nature, he’ll only compete if he can win. “It depends on the amount of time I can put into practice as to whether I want to enter a race.”
Spa's my favourite track on the calendar and it’s always nice to drive there. Max and the Team will head back to the track on Friday 27 August in Belgium at Spa-Francorchamps and even though Max is looking forward to his holiday, he’s already excited about getting back to racing. “It’s my favourite track on the calendar and it’s always nice to drive there. I hope we can have a great result there, but I know I will just enjoy driving the laps around Spa anyway.”
