Led by our Cultural Employee Resource Group (ERG), the Team began working with AFBE-UK in March, with the partnership already delivering webinars open to all Team members. The first webinar “The Ethics of Ethnic Diversity” was hosted by AFBE Co-Founder Dr Ollie Folayan, MBE, discussing ethnic disparities in the workplace and tips for becoming an ally of ethnic diversity. The Team is also looking forward to hosting the AFBE Transition Event on our campus in January, targeting engineering students and graduates to provide an inspiring experience for prospective candidates.
Only 9% of UK engineers are from Black and minority ethnic backgrounds although an average of 29.9% of engineering university graduates are from these underrepresented groups. AFBE-UK’s mission is to increase the number of BME Engineers who succeed professionally and support young people to explore a career in engineering.
Building on this relationship, AFBE-UK will continue to support our Cultural ERG with plans to host further educational and career events further amplifying our partnership and helping guide the Team’s ‘Drive For Change’ initiatives.
Olabode George Brown, Red Bull Technology Group Cultural ERG Lead said: “It’s been great to bring AFBE-UK on board as a diversity and inclusion specialist and have them support the work we are doing. I have seen first-hand the work they do to help young aspiring engineers overcome the barriers and challenges that I’ve also faced in academia and in my career. We look forward to continuing this important work through our Cultural ERG, ensuring this is a sport in which everyone truly belongs.”
Anjela Maharajah, Corporate Partnerships Lead at AFBE-UK, said: “We are very excited to welcome Oracle Red Bull Racing as a corporate partner of AFBE-UK. Through this partnership we are committed to supporting the Team in delivering on their DEI outcomes of improving awareness and diversity within the Team and the motorsport industry at large.”
