Round one saw the Red Bull Racing Esports pros Sebastian Job, Graham Carroll and Cooper Webster head to Hockenheim to take on some of the world’s best sim racing talent.
Former World Champion Sebastian Job posted the fourth quickest time in the sprint race qualifying, with tournament newcomer Cooper Webster starting in P12 and Graham Carroll in P14.
A solid sprint race from Sebi saw him finish in P4, while Cooper battled hard to move up to P9. Graham finished the race in a highly respectable P11 but the Scot was about to steal the show.
It was all to play for as the Team headed in to the 19-lap feature race and the first event showed that it was going to be close.
Starting from P11, Graham drove an incredible race, battling his way up the grid to finish on the podium in second.
Cooper enjoyed a very strong debut in the competition and had targeted a top ten finish in his first race. The Australian delivered, driving solidly to cross the line in P5.
Heartbreak for Sebi early in the race saw a car make contact with him, putting him in a spin and effectively ending his hopes of a podium.
Cooper Webster said: “I started off really nervous since it was my biggest sim race yet and I think that helped me put together a qualifying lap I was reasonably happy with. I got a really good start in the heat and moved up from 12th to 9th and had a chance to go for the reverse grid feature pole position but decided it was better to hold my ground and take some decent points. It's just too early in the season to risk anything when I'm sitting up high during a race.
“The feature race start was also pretty good, I gained one position and was in 8th for the first half of the race. My mindset was to play it safe and bank points and hopefully score positions from people falling of the track or possible penalties and that was exactly what happened. Once Graham got passed me I did my best to follow him through up the grid however, it was so difficult to pass without risking going around the outside and putting yourself in a vulnerable position – I just did my best to maintain my position.
“Overall I am super happy with how my first round went, I achieved the goals I set myself for the race so I'm very pleased and will continue to keep doing my best into the next round!”
