We always knew when we got to Mexico that there would only be one driver the crowd wanted to see – our very own Checo Pérez. And they went wild all weekend for the Mexican Bull. Throughout the lap the Mexican fans could be heard cheering for their hero, and each time Car #11 entered the iconic Foro Sol, the stands erupted into a chorus of Checo chants.
Obviously, the biggest fan in the crowd over the weekend was Antonio Pérez Garibay - Checo’s father - who probably woke up Monday morning with a very sore throat.
MaxClaimingHisSixthPoleOfTheSeason
It wasn’t a guarantee that Max was going to be sitting on pole at the Mexican Grand Prix.
Max found himself in P2 at the end of Q1 and down in P7 in Q2. But he turned it on for the final shootout and took pole position with a time of 1:17.775, beating second-placed George Russell by 0.304s.
Max claiming pole meant he was the 11th different pole sitter in the last 11 outings of the Mexican Grand Prix, this is a run that dates back to 1988.

Max and Checo started the Race in P1 and P4, split by the Mercedes pair in second and third. Both Mercedes started on the medium tyres, while the Bulls were on the red-walled soft tyres. And it was the perfect start for the Team. Max got away cleanly and as Hamilton and Russell battled for position, Checo bided his time. He didn’t have to wait long; Russell went wide at turn three and Checo saw the gap and went for it. That move helped Checo secure his second podium in a row at his home race.
14WinsInASeason
When Max took the chequered flag at Sunday’s Mexican Grand Prix, his name entered the history books as he claimed the most wins by a driver in the season.
Max has won 14 of the 20 races so far, eclipsing the record of 13 wins in a single season set by both Michael Schumacher in 2004 and Sebastian Vettel in 2013. It had been four years since the pole sitter claimed victory at the Mexican Grand Prix.
MoreThanEverBefore
With two races still remining, the Team has already scored more points in the Constructors’ Championship this year than ever before. Max has also scored the most points in a single season than any other driver in the sport’s history.
The Team has gained 696 points so far, thanks to 16 wins and 25 podiums across the season so far.
The total easily beats the 650 points the Bulls won in 2011 when Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo claimed 12 wins and 15 further podiums in the season.
The only question remaining is how many more points will the Team get before the end of the season?
