ChecoOnTheRiseInTheSprint
Due to a red flag and then rain making an appearance, the drivers were unable to improve on their early run times in Q3. This saw Checo qualify down in P9, but one thing Checo can do is fight and when it came to the Sprint Race on Saturday, that’s exactly what he did.
In just 24 laps Checo was able to get in front of pole-sitter Kevin Magnussen, Lando Norris and the Alpine’s of both Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon. It was a great drive that saw him finish P5.

After colliding with Hamilton, Max pulled into the pits for a fresh of set tyres and a new wing. For a team to change a wing it’s usually thought to take around 11 seconds, but the Bulls crew smashed it out in just 10.0 seconds, and they also strapped on a set of medium tyres as well. And once again, the Bulls had the quickest stop of the race. In just 2.04s Checo was good to go with fresh rubber on his RB18. That score puts the Bulls 142 points clear on the DHL Fastest Pit Stop Award – another title for the Team!

On the sixth lap of the race Max and Lewis Hamilton went for the same piece of track and collided. Max dropped to P17 with a very damaged wing and had to pit (which we’ll come to in a moment). After coming out with a new wing and a set of medium tyres, he climbed back to P11, but then came in the pits again for a set of soft tyres. Max was on the softs for 32 laps and rose up to P6 before pitting once again for another set of softs. Again, he dropped down the order and out of the points into P11. But Max never quits and in the last 23 laps he was back on the charge, finishing the race in P6.

Towards the end of lap 62 Max was down in P9, but towards the end of long start/finish straight he had Esteban Ocon and Valtteri Bottas in his sights. The Alpine and Alfa Romeo driver were fighting each other for track position so Max took full advantage and as he manoeuvred into turn one, the Bull swept past both of them to move up to P7.

Brazilian World Champion surfer Italo Ferreira visited the garage at his home Grand Prix to cheer on the Bulls as they competed. Italo – who learned to surf on the lid of his father’s cool box - won the shortboard gold at the Tokyo Olympics and was the 2019 Surf League Champion.
Italo came for a tour of the garage and said hello to the drivers and the Team. It was a great opportunity to have our wider Red Bull family see what happens at a Grand Prix weekend.
