It can get pretty cold in Canada so the big hits there are often some good, carby comfort food. Canada, and specifically Montreal, is famous for a variety of yummy dishes. Bagels are a big hit in the city, and yes they are different from the more commonly known New York bagel. The Montreal-style bagel is denser, thinner and sweeter, and it’s often made with honey-water and baked in a wood-fired oven. Don’t worry, if you choose to make these at home they’ll still be just as delicious baked in a regular oven if you don’t have a wood-fired one at your disposal (and if you do then we’re very jealous). You can top them with either poppy or sesame seeds, whichever floats your boat.
Another staple of the Montréaler’s diet is the smoked meat sandwich. To get this right, you’ll want plenty of thickly sliced brisket on rye bread with a decent helping of mustard.
Now there’s one dish you’d expect to hear about when we’re talking Canadian cuisine, and don’t worry of course we haven’t forgotten about it. It’s not a Montreal watch party without poutine! Often seen as the ultimate Canadian dish – it consists of fries, cheese curds and brown gravy. You can technically use any fries, but if you want to make your own then Russet potatoes are best, and you can make your gravy however you like. If you’re not in Canada then you may struggle to find cheese curds, but if you’re okay with cheating then torn chunks of mozzarella are apparently the best substitute!
There are plenty of well-known beverages that originate in Canada, from the famous Gibeau Orange Julep drink to the French Vanilla. You can find copycat recipes online to try and make your own version of these, but what we recommend is (of course) a nice cold Red Bull mocktail to wash down your poutine.
We also know the weather can be a bit temperamental during the Canadian Grand Prix, so the Storm feels appropriate. For this you’ll need: 10ml of blackberry syrup, juice of half a lemon, ice, one can of Red Bull Energy Drink, and lemon wedges for garnish.
The Food and drink are sorted now all you need is to get the music going and you’ve got yourself a watch party. But what to play? Again, we’ve got you. Just hop on Spotify and put on the Bulls Beats playlist specifically made for the Canadian Grand Prix.
You want to look your best at the party, and what better attire than some Oracle Red Bull Racing teamwear? If you’re a fan of the Team there’s something for you and if you have a favourite driver, both Max and Checo have their own collections. Checo even has a limited edition New Era cap just for the Canadian Grand Prix.
