After seven years at Xtrac, Rich moved across to F1 full time in 2008, joining Red Bull Racing as a Transmission Design Engineer with responsibility for the gearbox of 2009’s race-winning RB5. He continued in that role with the championship-winning RB6 and RB7 before he became the Team’s Customer Transmission engineer, acting as the main point of contact for the now defunct Caterham team. As the sport integrated energy recovery systems for the first time, Rich also took on the role of Customer KERS Support Engineer, with responsibility for the safe operation of the Team’s cars.
In 2013, Rich stepped up to become Engineering Coordinator for Red Bull Racing, as well as acting as ‘Car Controller’ during the Team’s pit stops, ensuring the cars’ visit to the pit lane were conducted efficiently and safely. Then, in 2015 he took up the position of Engineer – Car Engineering. In 2018 that led to Senior Engineer status, a position that gave him responsibility for the specification and build of the Team’s car across the season,
As part of the reorganisation of the Race Team for 2025, Rich now steps up to become Head of Race Team Operations, gaining responsibility for all trackside operations as well as full control of pit stops.
